Jn 11, 1-57

1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) 3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick. 4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. 5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. 6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. 7 Then after that says he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. 8 "His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and go you thither again? " 9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him. 11 "These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. " 12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 13 Nevertheless Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15 "And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent all of you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. " 16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him. 17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. 18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: 19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. 20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. 21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died. 22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it you. 23 Jesus says unto her, Your brother shall rise again. 24 Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. 25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this? 27 She says unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. 28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master has come, and calls for you. 29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him. 30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. 31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there. 32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died. 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, (o. pneuma) and was troubled. 34 And said, Where have all of you laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. 35 Jesus wept. 36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! 37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? 38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself comes to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. 39 Jesus said, Take all of you away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, says unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he has been dead four days. 40 Jesus says unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God? 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me. 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go. 45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. 46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. 47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles. 48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. 49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, All of you know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. 51 "And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; " 52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. 53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together in order to put him to death. 54 "Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples. " 55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. 56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spoke among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think all of you, that he will not come to the feast? 57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should show it, that they might take him.

(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Mt 26:6 - Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

Mk 14:3 - "And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at food, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. "

Lk 7:37 - And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at food in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

Jn 12:3 - Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

Jesus wept.

Lk 19:41 - And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

Jn 11:40 - Jesus says unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?

Jn 9:13 - They brought to the Pharisees him that in old times was blind.

And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

Jn 9:6 - When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

"His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and go you thither again? "

Jn 8:59 - Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Jn 10:31 - Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me.

Jn 12:30 - Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

"These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. "

Mt 9:24 - He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.

Mk 5:39 - And when he was come in, he says unto them, Why make all of you this disturbance, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

Lk 8:52 - "And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps. "

Verš 44

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Jn 20:7 - And the cloth, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles.

Mk 14:1 - After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

Then sought they for Jesus, and spoke among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think all of you, that he will not come to the feast?

Jn 7:11 - Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

Verš 50

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

Jn 18:14 - Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Dan 12:2 - And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Lk 14:14 - "And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. "

Jn 5:29 - "And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. "

Verš 25

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Jn 1:4 - "In him was life; and the life was the light of men. "

Jn 5:24 - "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, (o. logos) and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. "

Jn 14:6 - Jesus says unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.

Jn 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jn 3:36 - "He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him. "

Jn 6:47 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me has everlasting life.

1Jn 5:10 - "He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son. "

Verš 26

And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this?

Jn 6:51 - I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Verš 27

She says unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

Mt 16:16 - And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mk 8:29 - And he says unto them, But whom say all of you that I am? And Peter answers and says unto him, You are the Christ.

Lk 9:20 - He said unto them, But whom say all of you that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.

Jn 6:69 - And we believe and are sure that you are that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Jn 11,4 - Choroba Lazára bola skutočne smrteľná. Lazár naozaj zomrel. Jeho smrť však bola pre Krista príležitosťou, aby ukázal, že on je Pánom aj nad smrťou.

Jn 11,9 - Ježiš hovorí obrazne: Nič zlé sa mu nemôže stať pred tou hodinou, ktorú mu určil Otec. Deň od východu slnka až po západ sa delí približne na dvanásť hodín. Kto v tomto čase kráča, ide bezpečne, lebo vidí nebezpečenstvá a prekážky, ktorým sa vyhne. Inak je to s tým, kto kráča v noci.

Jn 11,11 - Vzkriesiť mŕtveho je pre Ježiša ako zobudiť spiaceho. Preto nazýva smrť spánkom.

Jn 11,18 - Betánia bola vzdialená od Jeruzalema asi 3 km na ceste smerom do Jericha a nachádzala sa na východnom úpätí Olivovej hory. 1 stadion = asi 186 metrov.

Jn 11,25 - Ježiš je Pánom života. On udeľuje človeku taký život, ktorému ani smrť nemôže uškodiť.

Jn 11,35 - Hoci Ján vo svojom evanjeliu dokazuje, že Ježiš je pravý Boh, predsa na prípadoch, ako je tento, keď aj plače, ukazuje, že je aj opravdivým človekom.

Jn 11,47 - Ježišovi nepriatelia museli uznať, že Ježiš koná znamenia. Namiesto toho, aby uverili v neho, preniesli celú otázku na politickú rovinu. Báli sa, že všetci pôjdu za ním a Rimania nebudú trpieť túto "vzburu". Preto sa rozhodli, že ho zabijú. - "Miesto" čiže Jeruzalem alebo celú krajinu, alebo, čo je najpravdepodobnejšie: Sväté miesto - chrám.

Jn 11,51 - Kajfáš ani netušil, akú prorockú pravdu povedal. Bol veľkňazom, a hoci bol nehodný, Boh ho použil ako tlmočníka svojich úmyslov.

Jn 11,54 - Efraim, dnešné el Taijibe, vzdušnou čiarou asi 20 km na sever od Jeruzalema.
