Prís 1, 1-33

1 (CPDV) The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,
1 (ROH) Príslovia Šalamúna, syna Dávidovho, izraelského kráľa,

2 (CPDV) in order to know wisdom and discipline,
2 (ROH) poznať múdrosť a kázeň, porozumieť slovám rozumnosti,

3 (CPDV) to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,
3 (ROH) dosiahnuť kázne rozumu, spravedlivosti, súdu a priamosti,

4 (CPDV) so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.
4 (ROH) dať prostým opatrnosť, mládencovi známosť a dômyselnosť.

5 (CPDV) By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.
5 (ROH) Nech čuje múdry a priberie naučenia, a rozumný tak nadobudne schopnosti spravovať.

6 (CPDV) He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.
6 (ROH) Sú to veci na porozumenie prísloviu a podobenstvu, slovám múdrych a ich záhadným rečiam hlbokým.

7 (CPDV) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.
7 (ROH) Bázeň Hospodinova je počiatkom známosti; múdrosťou a kázňou pohŕdajú blázni.

8 (CPDV) Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,
8 (ROH) Poslúchaj, môj synu, kázeň svojho otca a neopusti naučenia svojej matky.

9 (CPDV) so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.
9 (ROH) Lebo to bude ľúbezným vencom tvojej hlave a ozdobnou reťazou tvojmu hrdlu.

10 (CPDV) My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.
10 (ROH) Môj synu, keby ťa nahovárali hriešnici, neprivoľ!

11 (CPDV) If they should say: “Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.
11 (ROH) Keby ti riekli: Nože poď s nami; nastrojíme krvi úklady; skryjeme sa proti nevinnému bez príčiny;

12 (CPDV) Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.
12 (ROH) pohltíme ich živých ako peklo a bezúhonných ako tých, ktorí sostupujú do jamy;

13 (CPDV) We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.
13 (ROH) najdeme rôzny majetok drahocenný; naplníme svoje domy korisťou.

14 (CPDV) Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all.”
14 (ROH) Vrhni svoj los medzi nami; všetci budeme mať jeden mešec.

15 (CPDV) My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.

16 (CPDV) For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.
16 (ROH) Pretože ich nohy bežia ku zlému, a ponáhľajú sa vyliať krv.

17 (CPDV) But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.
17 (ROH) Lebo veď nadarmo sa rozprestiera sieť pred očami ktoréhokoľvek okrýdlenca.

18 (CPDV) Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.
18 (ROH) Ale oni úkladia svojej vlastnej krvi; skrývajú sa proti svojim dušiam.

19 (CPDV) Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.
19 (ROH) Také sú cesty každého, kto dychtí po zisku; zisk odníma dušu svojho pána.

20 (CPDV) Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.
20 (ROH) Múdrosť volá hlasne vonku; vydáva svoj hlas na uliciach.

21 (CPDV) She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:
21 (ROH) Volá na hlavných miestach najrušnejších, pri vchodoch do brán, v meste hovorí svoje reči:

22 (CPDV) “Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?
22 (ROH) Až dokedy, hlúpi, budete milovať hlúposť, a posmievači dokedy budú obľubovať posmech a blázni nenávidieť známosť?

23 (CPDV) Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.
23 (ROH) Obráťte sa k môjmu karhaniu! Hľa, vydám vám zo seba svojho ducha a oznámim vám svoje slová!

24 (CPDV) For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.
24 (ROH) No, preto, že som volala, a odopierali ste; vystierala som svoju ruku, a nebolo nikoho, kto by bol pozoroval ušima;

25 (CPDV) You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.
25 (ROH) ale ste pustili naprázdno každú moju radu a môjho karhania ste nechceli,

26 (CPDV) Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.
26 (ROH) preto sa i ja budem smiať vo vašom nešťastí; budem sa posmievať, keď prijde to, čoho sa strachujete;

27 (CPDV) When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,

28 (CPDV) then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.

29 (CPDV) For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;
29 (ROH) zato, že nenávideli známosti a nevyvolili si bázne Hospodinovej;

30 (CPDV) they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.
30 (ROH) nechceli mojej rady, ale pohŕdali každým mojím káraním,

31 (CPDV) Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.

32 (CPDV) The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.
32 (ROH) Lebo odvrátenie hlupcov ich samých zabije, a vlastná hriešna ubezpečenosť bláznov, tá ich zahubí.

33 (CPDV) But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”
33 (ROH) Ale ten, kto mňa poslúcha, bude bývať bezpečne a bude mať pokoj od strachu zo zlého.

Pris 1,1-6 - Prvá čiastka knihy (1,1 – 9,18) predstavuje všeobecný úvod, ktorý k jadru celej knihy (k jednotlivým prísloviam a naučeniam v ďalších častiach) napísal ich redaktor. 3,27–30 a i.).Za nadpisom (1) spisovateľ uvádza hneď účel tejto zbierky prísloví.

Pris 1,7 - Jadrom všetkej múdrosti, je bázeň pred Pánom, bohabojnosť, ktorá vzdáva úctu Bohu vnútorne i navonok. – Porov. 9,10a.
