Jób 38, 1-41

1 (CPDV) But the Lord, responding to Job from a whirlwind, said:
1 (ROH) Vtedy odpovedal Hospodin Jobovi z víchrice a riekol:

2 (CPDV) Who is this that wraps sentences in unskilled words?
2 (ROH) Kto je to, ktorý to zatemňuje radu slovami bez známosti?

3 (CPDV) Gird your waist like a man. I will question you, and you must answer me.
3 (ROH) Nože prepáš svoje bedrá jako muž, a budem sa ťa pýtať, a ty mi oznám!

4 (CPDV) Where were you, when I set the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
4 (ROH) Kde si bol, keď som zakladal zem? Oznám, akže znáš rozum?

5 (CPDV) Who set its measurements, if you know, or who stretched a line over it?
5 (ROH) Kto položil jej rozmery, keď vieš? Alebo kto roztiahol po nej šnúru?

6 (CPDV) Upon what have its bases been grounded, and who set forth its cornerstone,
6 (ROH) Na čom stoja a do čoho sú zapustené jej podstavce, alebo kto položil jej uholný kameň,

7 (CPDV) when the morning stars praised me together, and all the sons of God made a joyful noise?
7 (ROH) keď spolu plesaly hviezdy rána, a keď jasali všetci synovia Boží?

8 (CPDV) Who enclosed the sea with doors, when it broke forth as if issuing from the womb,
8 (ROH) A kto zatarasil dverami more, keď sa vyrútilo, vyšlo zo života matky?

9 (CPDV) when I stationed a cloud as its garment and wrapped it in a mist as if swaddling an infant?
9 (ROH) Keď som rozložil oblak za jeho odev a mrákavu za jeho plienky?

10 (CPDV) I encircled it with my limits, and I positioned its bars and doors.
10 (ROH) A keď som mu vydal svoj zákon a položil som závory a vráta

11 (CPDV) And I said: “This far you will approach, and you will proceeded no further, and here you will break your swelling waves.”
11 (ROH) a riekol som: Potiaľto prijdeš a nie ďalej, a tu položia hať proti pýche tvojich vĺn!?

12 (CPDV) Did you, after your birth, command the birth of the sun and show the sunrise its place?
12 (ROH) Či si voľakedy za svojich dní rozkázal ránu? Či si ukázal rannej zore, kde je jej miesto,

13 (CPDV) And did you hold the extremities of the earth, shaking them, and have you shaken the impious out of it?
13 (ROH) poveliac, aby sa chopila krýdel zeme, a aby boli strasení s nej bezbožníci?

14 (CPDV) The seal will be restored like clay, and it will remain in place like a garment.
14 (ROH) Nech sa prevracia a mení tvar ako pečatná hmota, a iné veci nech sa postavia ako rúcho!

15 (CPDV) From the impious, the light will be taken away, and the exalted arm will be broken.
15 (ROH) A tak nech je odňaté od bezbožných ich svetlo, a vysoké rameno nech sa poláme!

16 (CPDV) Have you entered the depths of the sea, and have you taken a walk in the uttermost parts of the abyss?
16 (ROH) Či si voľakedy prišiel až ku žriedlam mora alebo či si sa prechádzal po vnútri priepasti?

17 (CPDV) Have the gates of death been opened to you, and have you seen the doors of darkness?
17 (ROH) Či sú ti zjavené brány smrti, alebo brány tône smrti si videl?

18 (CPDV) Have you considered the breadth of the earth? If you know all things, reveal them to me.
18 (ROH) Či si si prezrel všetko až po šírky zeme? Oznám, ak ju znáš celú!

19 (CPDV) Which is the way that holds the light, and which is the place of darkness?
19 (ROH) Kde je cesta na miesto ta, kde býva svetlo? Alebo čo do tmy, kde je jej miesto?

20 (CPDV) In this way, you might lead each thing to its final place, and understand the paths of its house.
20 (ROH) Aby si to pojal a odviedol v jeho medze a keď rozumieš chodníkom, ktoré vedú k jeho domu?

21 (CPDV) So then, did you know when you were to be born? And did you know the number of your days?
21 (ROH) Pravda vieš, lebo si sa vtedy narodil, a počet tvojich dňov je veľký!

22 (CPDV) Have you been admitted into the storehouses of the snows, and have you gazed upon the stockpile of the brimstone,
22 (ROH) Či si prišiel voľakedy k pokladom snehu a poklady kamenca si videl?

23 (CPDV) which I have prepared for the time of the enemy, for the day of the battle and the war?
23 (ROH) Ktoré zdŕžam u seba na čas súženia, na deň boja a vojny?

24 (CPDV) In what way is the light scattered, and the heat distributed, over the earth?
24 (ROH) Kde je cesta na miesto ta, kde sa delí svetlo, ktoré rozháňa východný vietor po zemi?

25 (CPDV) Who gave a course to the rainstorms, and a path to the resounding thunder,
25 (ROH) Kto rozdelil povodni prietok v obe strany a cestu blesku zvukov hromu,

26 (CPDV) so that it would rain on the earth far from man, in the wilderness where no mortal lingers,
26 (ROH) aby dal pršať na zem, kde nieto nikoho, na púšť, na ktorej neni človeka?

27 (CPDV) so that it would fill impassable and desolate places, and would bring forth green plants?
27 (ROH) Aby nasýtil pustinu a miesta obrátené na púšť, a spôsobil to, aby rástla mladistvá tráva zelená?

28 (CPDV) Who is the father of rain, or who conceived the drops of dew?
28 (ROH) Či má dážď otca, alebo kto plodí kvapky rosy?

29 (CPDV) From whose womb did the ice proceed, and who created the frost from the air?
29 (ROH) Z čieho života vychádza mráz, a okyť nebies, kto ju plodí?

30 (CPDV) The waters are hardened to become like stone, and the surface of the abyss freezes over.
30 (ROH) Vody sa skrývajú ako pod kameň, a tvár priepasti zamrznúc drží sa spolu.

31 (CPDV) Will you have the strength to join together the sparkling stars of the Pleiades, or are you able to disperse the circling of Arcturus?
31 (ROH) Či si sviazal sväzky Plejad alebo či si rozviazal povrazy Oriona?

32 (CPDV) Can you bring forth the morning star, in its time, and make the evening star rise over the sons of the earth?
32 (ROH) Či vyvedieš Mazzárot svojím časom? Alebo Arktura i s jeho synmi povedieš?

33 (CPDV) Do you know the order of heaven, and can you explain its rules here on the earth?
33 (ROH) Či znáš zákony nebies? Či položíš toho správu na zemi?

34 (CPDV) Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that an onslaught of waters will cover you?
34 (ROH) Či pozdvihneš svoj hlas k oblaku, aby ťa pokryla hojnosť vody?

35 (CPDV) Can you send forth lightning bolts, and will they go, and on returning, say to you: “Here we are?”
35 (ROH) Či pošleš blesky hromu, a pojdú? A či ti azda povedia: Hľa, tu sme?

36 (CPDV) Who placed discernment in the guts of man, or who gave the rooster intelligence? 306
36 (ROH) Kto vložil do ľadvín múdrosť alebo kto dal srdcu rozum?

37 (CPDV) Who can describe the rules of the heavens, or who can put to rest the harmony of heaven?
37 (ROH) Kto spočíta oblaky v svojej múdrosti, a nebeské kožice vody kto nahne,

38 (CPDV) When was the dust cast to become the earth, and when were its clods fastened together?
38 (ROH) keď sa sleje prach zeme v pevnú sliatinu, a hrudy sú pevne slepené?

39 (CPDV) Will you seize prey for the lioness, and will you sustain the lives of her young,
39 (ROH) Či ulovíš ľvici korisť a hltavosť ľvíčat ukojíš,

40 (CPDV) as they rest in their dens or lie in wait in pits?
40 (ROH) keď sa krčia v pelešiach, sedia v húšti čihajúc?

41 (CPDV) Who provides the raven with its meal, when her chicks cry out to God, as they wander around because they have no food?
41 (ROH) Kto pripravuje havranovi jeho pokrm, keď volajú jeho mláďatá k silnému Bohu, keď blúdia bez potravy?

Do you know the order of heaven, and can you explain its rules here on the earth?

Jer 31:35 - Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun as the light of the day, who puts the moon and the stars in order as the light of the night, who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar: the Lord of hosts is his name.

Who is this that wraps sentences in unskilled words?

Jób 42:3 - So, who is it that would disguise a lack of knowledge as counsel? Therefore, I have been speaking foolishly, about things whose measure exceeds my knowledge.

Where were you, when I set the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.

Prís 8:29 - when he encompassed the sea within its limits, and laid down a law for the waters, lest they transgress their limits; when he weighed the foundations of the earth.

Will you seize prey for the lioness, and will you sustain the lives of her young,

Gn 1:9 - Truly God said: “Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together into one place; and let the dry land appear.” And so it became.

Jób 26:10 - He has set limits around the waters, until light and darkness shall reach their limit.

Ž 33:7 - This poor one cried out, and the Lord heeded him, and he saved him from all his tribulations.

Ž 104:9 - which he assigned to Abraham, and his oath to Isaac.

Jer 5:22 - So then, will you not fear me, says the Lord. And will you not have sorrow before my face? I have placed the shore as a limit for the sea, as an everlasting precept that it will not transgress. And its waves will crash, but they will not prevail; and its waves will swell, but they will not go across.

Verš 41

Who provides the raven with its meal, when her chicks cry out to God, as they wander around because they have no food?

Ž 147:9 - He has not done so much for every nation, and he has not made his judgments manifest to them. Alleluia.

Mt 6:26 - Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?

Who placed discernment in the guts of man, or who gave the rooster intelligence? 306

Jób 32:8 - But I see now that there is only breath in men, and that it is the inspiration of the Almighty that gives understanding.

Kaz 2:26 - God has given, to the man who is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and rejoicing. But to the sinner, he has given affliction and needless worrying, so as to add, 358 and to gather, and to deliver, to him who has pleased God. But this, too, is emptiness and a hollow worrying of the mind.

Dan 1:17 - Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.

Verš 31

Will you have the strength to join together the sparkling stars of the Pleiades, or are you able to disperse the circling of Arcturus?

Jób 9:9 - He fashions Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the interior of the south.

Am 5:8 - The Maker of Arcturus and Orion, who turns darkness into daybreak and who changes day into night; who calls forth the waters of the sea and who pours them out over the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.

Job 38,7 - Najobvyklejší obraz stvorenia sveta predstavuje Boha ako budovateľa domu (4–6). Keď budovateľ zapustil do budovy uholný kameň, konala sa za spevu slávnosť (porov. Zach 4,7). V Palestíne podnes sprevádzajú kladenie posledných kameňov do klenby striedavými piesňami (Hejčl, Biblie, č. III, 997). Pri zakončovaní budovania vesmíru spievali hviezdy a anjeli na slávu Bohu.

Job 38,14 - Nádheru farieb, ktorá sa zjaví pri rannej zore, porovnáva spisovateľ s červenou pečatnou hlinou. Zmeneným hláskovaním dostaneme však nový obraz, ktorý sa zdá priliehavejším na tomto mieste. Ide tu asi o porovnanie s červeným vínom (Prís 23,31), ktoré sa postupne čistí, ak je uzavreté, a postupne sa v ňom vyvíja utešená farba.

Job 38,21 - Ide o ironickú poznámku o krátkom veku ľudského života.

Job 38,23 - Možno, že verš naráža na Joz 10,11.

Job 38,36 - Zdôrazňuje poriadok, ktorým sa prejavujú sily prírody, akoby podľa rozvahy vyvíjajú svoju činnosť, na svoj čas určenú. Iní prekladajú: Ktože vložil do mrakov múdrosť a ktože požičal mračnám rozvahu? – Iní zasa miesto "mrakov" a "mračien" chcú čítať slová: utajenosť a zjavný dej. Preto prekladajú: Kto vložil do utajenosti múdrosť a kto požičal zjavnému dianiu rozvahu? – V pravidelnosti prírodných javov zračí sa múdrosť toho, kto prírode stanovil jej zákonitosť.
