Gn 16, 1-16

1 (CPDV) Now Sarai, the wife of Abram, had not conceived children. But, having an Egyptian handmaid named Hagar,

2 (CPDV) she said to her husband: “Behold, the Lord has closed me, lest I give birth. Enter to my handmaid, so that perhaps I may receive sons of her at least.” And when he agreed to her supplication,
2 (KAT) Sarai povedala Abramovi: „Pozri, Pán ma uzavrel, že nemôžem porodiť. Vojdi teda k mojej slúžke! Možno, že aspoň z nej dostanem synov.“ Abram počúvol jej radu.

3 (CPDV) she took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, ten years after they began to 9 live in the land of Canaan, and she gave her to her husband as a wife.
3 (KAT) I vzala Abramova žena Sarai svoju služobnicu, Egypťanku Agar - Abram vtedy býval už desať rokov v kanaánskej krajine -, a dala ju za ženu svojmu mužovi Abramovi.

4 (CPDV) And he entered to her. But when she saw that she had conceived, she despised her mistress.
4 (KAT) On k nej vošiel a ona počala.

5 (CPDV) And Sarai said to Abram: “You have acted unfairly against me. I gave my handmaid into your bosom, who, when she saw that she had conceived, held me in contempt. May the Lord judge between me and you.”
Nech Pán súdi medzi mnou a tebou!“

6 (CPDV) Abram responded to her by saying, “Behold, your handmaid is in your hand to treat as it pleases you.” And so, when Sarai afflicted her, she took flight.

7 (CPDV) And when the Angel of the Lord had found her, near the fountain of water in the wilderness, which is on the way to Shur in the desert,

8 (CPDV) he said to her: “Hagar, handmaid of Sarai, where have you come from? And where will you go?” And she answered, “I flee from the face of Sarai, my mistress.”
8 (KAT) a povedal jej: „Odkiaľ ideš, Agar, Saraina slúžka, a kam sa uberáš?“ A ona odpovedala: „Utekám pred svojou paňou Sarai.“

9 (CPDV) And the Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and humble yourself under her hand.”
9 (KAT) Tu jej Pánov anjel povedal: „Vráť sa k svojej panej a podrob sa jej moci!“

10 (CPDV) And again he said, “I will multiply your offspring continuously, and they will not be numbered because of their multitude.”

11 (CPDV) But thereafter he said: “Behold, you have conceived, and you will give birth to a son. And you shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has heard your affliction.
11 (KAT) A ešte jej Pánov anjel hovoril: „Hľa, počala si a porodíš syna, a nazveš ho menom Izmael, lebo Pán vypočul tvoje vzdychy;

12 (CPDV) He will be a wild man. His hand will be against all, and all hands will be against him. And he will pitch his tents away from the region of all his brothers.”
12 (KAT) bude to človek ako divý osol, jeho ruka bude proti všetkým a ruky všetkých proti nemu a bude bývať nablízku všetkých svojich bratov.“

13 (CPDV) Then she called upon the name of the Lord who had spoken to her: “You are the God who has seen me.” For she said, “Certainly, here I have seen the back of the one who sees me.”

14 (CPDV) Because of this, she called that well: ‘The well of the one who lives and who sees me.’ The same is between Kadesh and Bered.
14 (KAT) Preto studňu nazvala studňou Lachaj roi (studňa Živého, ktorý ma vidí). To je tá medzi Kádešom a Baradom.

15 (CPDV) And Hagar gave birth to a son for Abram, who called his name Ishmael.
15 (KAT) Potom Agar porodila Abramovi syna a Abram nazval syna, ktorého mu porodila Agar, Izmael.

16 (CPDV) Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael for him.
16 (KAT) Abram mal osemdesiatšesť rokov, keď mu Agar porodila Izmaela.

Gn 16, 1-16

Verš 12
He will be a wild man. His hand will be against all, and all hands will be against him. And he will pitch his tents away from the region of all his brothers.”
Gn 25:18 - Now he had lived from Havilah as far as Shur, which overlooks Egypt as it approaches the Assyrians. He passed away in the sight of all his brothers.

Verš 14
Because of this, she called that well: ‘The well of the one who lives and who sees me.’ The same is between Kadesh and Bered.
Gn 24:62 - Then, at the same time, Isaac was walking along the way that leads to the well, whose name is: ‘of the One who lives and who sees.’ For he dwelt in the southern land.
Gn 25:11 - And after his passing, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near the well named ‘of the One who lives and who sees.’

Verš 15
And Hagar gave birth to a son for Abram, who called his name Ishmael.
Gal 4:22 - For it is written that Abraham had two sons: one by a servant woman, and one by a free woman.

Boh vypočul Agar a pomohol jej v ťažkostiach a utrpení (v. 6).

Gn 16,12 - O Izmaelovi predpovedá Boh, že "bude to človek ako divý osol" (Vulgáta slovo osol vynecháva). Prirovnanie je prevzaté zo života beduínskeho, aký život viedol Abram a jeho najbližší potomci. Povahy bude neskrotnej, milovať bude slobodu a kočovnícky život. Arabskí beduíni dodnes považujú Izmaela za svojho praotca.
