Pris 1,1-6 - Prvá čiastka knihy (1,1 – 9,18) predstavuje všeobecný úvod, ktorý k jadru celej knihy (k jednotlivým prísloviam a naučeniam v ďalších častiach) napísal ich redaktor. Vhodnou formou (zosobnením múdrosti a pochabosti) sa podávajú pokyny a rady pre život. Dlhšie, súvislejšie vývody sú prepletené jednotlivosťami, lenže poriedko (napr. 3,27–30 a i.).Za nadpisom (1) spisovateľ uvádza hneď účel tejto zbierky prísloví.

Pris 1,7 - Jadrom všetkej múdrosti, je bázeň pred Pánom, bohabojnosť, ktorá vzdáva úctu Bohu vnútorne i navonok. – Porov. 9,10a.
