1 (CPDV) And so Jacob, setting out, arrived in the eastern land.
1 (KAT) Potom sa Jakub vydal na cestu a šiel do krajiny synov Východu.

2 (CPDV) And he saw a well in a field, and also three flocks of sheep reclining near it. For the animals were watered from it, and its mouth was closed with a great stone.
2 (KAT) I zadíval sa (raz) a hľa, na poli studňa a pri nej ležali tri kŕdle oviec, lebo z tejto studne napájavali stáda. Lenže kameň na otvore studne bol veľký

3 (CPDV) And the custom was, when all the sheep were gathered together, to roll away the stone. And when the flocks had been refreshed, they placed it over the mouth of the well again.
3 (KAT) a len keď ta zohnali všetky stáda, odvaľovali kameň z otvoru studne a tak napájali ovce. Potom dávali kameň opäť na svoje miesto na otvor studne.

4 (CPDV) And he said to the shepherds, “Brothers, where are you from?” And they answered. “From Haran.”
4 (KAT) Jakub sa ich opýtal: „Bratia moji, odkiaľ ste?“ Oni odvetili: „My sme z Haranu.“

5 (CPDV) And questioning them, he said, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
5 (KAT) Nato im povedal: „Poznáte Nachorovho syna Labana?“ Oni odpovedali: „Poznáme.“

6 (CPDV) He said, “Is he well?” “He is very well,” they said. “And behold, his daughter Rachel 17 approaches with his flock.”
6 (KAT) A keď sa ich pýtal: „Vodí sa mu dobre?“, oni odvetili: „Dobre. Hľa, práve prichádza jeho dcéra Ráchel s ovcami.“

7 (CPDV) And Jacob said, “There is still much daylight remaining, and it is not time to return the flocks to the sheepfold. Give the sheep to drink first, and then lead them back to pasture.”
7 (KAT) On im povedal: „Veď je ešte deň dosť dlhý a ešte nie je čas zohnať dobytok dovedna. Napojte ovce a nechajte sa im ešte popásť!“

8 (CPDV) They responded, “We cannot, until all the animals are gathered together and we remove the stone from the mouth of the well, so that we may water the flocks.”
8 (KAT) Oni však povedali: „To nemôžeme, kým nebudú zohnaté dovedna všetky stáda. Až potom sa odvaľuje kameň z otvoru studne a napájame stáda.“

9 (CPDV) They were still speaking, and behold, Rachel arrived with her father’s sheep; for she pastured the flock.
9 (KAT) Kým on s nimi rozprával, došla Ráchel s ovcami svojho otca. Ona ich totiž pásla.

10 (CPDV) When Jacob had seen her, and he realized that she was his maternal first cousin, and that these were the sheep of his uncle Laban, he removed the stone which closed the well.
10 (KAT) Keď Jakub videl Ráchel, dcéru brata svojej matky Labana, a ovce brata svojej matky Labana, pristúpil a odvalil kameň z otvoru studne a napojil ovce matkinho brata Labana.

11 (CPDV) And having watered the flock, he kissed her. And lifting up his voice, he wept.
11 (KAT) Potom Jakub pobozkal Ráchel a začal hlasno plakať.

12 (CPDV) And he revealed to her that he was a brother of her father, and the son of Rebekah. And so, hurrying, she announced it to her father.
12 (KAT) A Jakub rozprával Ráchel, že je príbuzným jej otca a že je Rebekiným synom. Tu ona utekala a oznámila to svojmu otcovi.

13 (CPDV) And when he had heard that Jacob, his sister’s son, had arrived, he ran to meet him. And embracing him, and kissing him heartily, he brought him into his house. But when he had heard the reasons for his journey,
13 (KAT) Keď Laban počul zvesť o Jakubovi, synovi svojej sestry, ponáhľal sa mu naproti, pobozkal ho a voviedol ho do svojho domu. A on vyrozprával Labanovi všetko, čo sa prihodilo.

14 (CPDV) he responded, “You are my bone and my flesh.” And after the days of one month were completed,
14 (KAT) Tu mu povedal Laban: „Ty si naozaj moja kosť a moje mäso!“ A ostal uňho na mesiac.

15 (CPDV) he said to him: “Though you are my brother, will you serve me for nothing? Tell me what wages you would accept.”
15 (KAT) Potom Laban hovoril Jakubovi: „Ty si môj príbuzný. Vari mi budeš zadarmo slúžiť? Povedz mi, aká má byť tvoja odmena?“

16 (CPDV) In truth, he had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah; and truly the younger was called Rachel.
16 (KAT) Laban mal dve dcéry: staršia sa volala Lia a mladšia Ráchel.

17 (CPDV) But while Leah was bleary-eyed, Rachel had an elegant appearance and was attractive to behold.
17 (KAT) Lia mala oči bez lesku, Ráchel však bola krásna i postavou i tvárou.

18 (CPDV) And Jacob, loving her, said, “I will serve you for seven years, for your younger daughter Rachel.”
18 (KAT) Jakub sa zamiloval do Ráchel a povedal: „Za tvoju mladšiu dcéru ti budem slúžiť sedem rokov.“

19 (CPDV) Laban responded, “It is better that I give her to you than to another man; remain with me.”
19 (KAT) Laban odvetil: „Radšej ju dám tebe ako cudziemu mužovi. Ostaň pri mne!“

20 (CPDV) Therefore, Jacob served for seven years for Rachel. And these seemed like only a few days, because of the greatness of love.
20 (KAT) Tak Jakub slúžil za Ráchel sedem rokov a videlo sa mu to len niekoľko dní. Tak ju mal rád.

21 (CPDV) And he said to Laban, “Give my wife to me. For now the time has been fulfilled, so that I may go in to her.”
21 (KAT) Potom povedal Jakub Labanovi: „Daj mi teraz moju ženu, lebo môj čas je už tu. Nech k nej vojdem.“

22 (CPDV) And he, having called a great crowd of his friends to the feast, agreed to the marriage.
22 (KAT) Vtedy Laban pozval všetkých ľudí z miesta a pripravil hostinu.

23 (CPDV) And at night, he brought in his daughter Leah to him,
23 (KAT) Večer však zobral svoju dcéru Liu a voviedol ju k Jakubovi a on s ňou obcoval.

24 (CPDV) giving his daughter a handmaid named Zilpah. After Jacob had gone in to her, according to custom, when morning had arrived, he saw Leah.
24 (KAT) Laban dal svoju slúžku Zelfu svojej dcére Lii za slúžku.

25 (CPDV) And he said to his father-in-law, “What is it that you intended to do? Did I not serve you for Rachel? Why have you deceived me?”
25 (KAT) Ale ráno videl, že to bola Lia, a povedal Labanovi: „Prečo si mi to urobil?! Neslúžil som ti za Ráchel?! Prečo si ma podviedol?“

26 (CPDV) Laban responded, “It is not the practice in this place to give the younger in marriage first.
26 (KAT) Laban mu odpovedal: „V našom kraji sa nerobí tak, aby sa mladšia vydala pred staršou.

27 (CPDV) Complete a week of days with this mating. And then I will give this one to you also, for the service that you will provide to me for another seven years.”
27 (KAT) Dokonči tento (svadobný) týždeň a potom ti dám aj tú za službu, ktorú mi budeš robiť ešte ďalších sedem rokov.“

28 (CPDV) He agreed to his pleading. And after the week had passed, he took Rachel as a wife.
28 (KAT) A Jakub to urobil, dokončil (svadobný) týždeň a on mu dal svoju dcéru Ráchel za ženu.

29 (CPDV) To her, the father had given Bilhah as her servant.
29 (KAT) Laban dal svoju slúžku Balu svojej dcére Ráchel za slúžku.

30 (CPDV) And, having at last obtained the marriage he desired, he preferred the love of the latter before the former, and he served with him another seven years.
30 (KAT) A on obcoval aj s Ráchel, lebo Ráchel mal radšej ako Liu, a slúžil uňho ešte ďalších sedem rokov.

31 (CPDV) But the Lord, seeing that he despised Leah, opened her womb, but her sister remained barren.
31 (KAT) Keď však Pán videl, že Lia je odstrčená, otvoril jej život, kým Ráchel bola neplodná.

32 (CPDV) Having conceived, she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben, saying: “The Lord saw my humiliation; now my husband will love me.”
32 (KAT) Lia počala a porodila syna a nazvala ho Rubenom, vraviac: „Pán zhliadol na moje poníženie, teraz ma môj muž bude už ľúbiť.“

33 (CPDV) And again she conceived and bore a son, and she said, “Because the Lord heard that I was treated with contempt, he has also given this one to me.” And she called his name Simeon.
33 (KAT) A opäť počala a porodila syna a povedala: „Pán počul, že som odstrčená, a tak mi dal aj tohto.“ A nazvala ho Simeonom.

34 (CPDV) And she conceived a third time, and she gave birth to another son, and she said: “Now likewise my husband will unite with me, because I have borne him three sons.” And because of this, she called his name Levi.
34 (KAT) Opäť počala a porodila syna a hovorila: „Teraz už môj muž prilipne ku mne, keď som mu porodila troch synov.“ Preto ho nazvala Lévi.

35 (CPDV) A fourth time she conceived and bore a son, and she said, “Only now will I confess to the Lord.” And for this reason, she called him Judah. And she ceased from child-bearing.
35 (KAT) A počala ešte raz a porodila syna a povedala: „Teraz velebím Pána!“ Preto ho nazvala Júda. Potom prestala rodiť.
